Left fights for power in the new double household: demands revealed!

Meißen, Deutschland - The political situation around the double budget 2025/2026 in Saxony ensures plenty of conversation. In the recent party congress of the Saxon left in Leipzig, clear conditions for approval for the budget draft were drawn up. Among other things, the left calls for a loosening of the debt brake in the Free State and participation rights in the distribution of funds from the special fund of the federal government. A majority of the delegates supported the corresponding applications, which the deputy chairman Markus Pohle emphasized. He asked the CDU to justify its expenditure plans for care, health, democracy, cultural projects, social housing and infrastructure more clearly and warned of the risks of remaining in the provisional housekeeping, which could endanger numerous projects.

The minority government of the CDU and SPD faces a challenge: they lack ten votes for the majority in parliament, which depends on the support of the opposition. The budget and finance committee has already started negotiations in its exam, and the first vote in the state parliament is expected for this month. However, the multitude of demands could also complicate the already difficult process. According to finanzen.sachsen.de , the State Government's budget was already brought in in the state parliament on April 3, 2025.

economic framework conditions

The double budget is set up in an economically tense environment. The current situation is characterized by a decline in gross domestic product and increasing inflation. The tax revenue of the Free State is primarily inflation -related and not economically dependent. Despite all the efforts, the expenditure exceeds the income, especially with personnel expenses. These rose by around 600 million euros due to tariff degrees. Also the costs in migration and asylum almost reach the highest level of 2016.

In order to cope with the financial challenges, cuts in the household are inevitable. Among other things, 1.3 billion euros must be removed from the budget equalization reserve and the deposits in the generation fund have to be reduced by 500 million euros. The co -financing of various funding programs is also reduced. Despite all austerity measures, investments in education and research are planned of 16 billion euros, whereby the teaching positions gained should be spared any cuts. A clear focus is on youth promotion in order to avoid negative long -term consequences and to ensure the hiring of young people in the police, judiciary and tax administration.

The way to the future

The Saxon state government advised on the double budget in Roßwein on February 10th and 11th. The aim is to create a stable transitional budget that not only takes into account the current situation, but also prepares for necessary structural reforms. As Medienservice.sachsen.de , the budget volume for 2025 and 2026 is around 25 billion euros per year. The coming weeks will be decisive in which the political actors are asked to show compromise and act responsibly in order to make the Free State of Saxony future -proof.

Overall, the situation requires a good hand from both the government and the opposition parties to successfully master the numerous challenges and to bring the budget through the state parliament in its desired form.
