Music fireworks in Lommatzsch: 35th state championship enthusiastic!

Last weekend, June 21st and 22nd, 2025, the 35th state championship of the Spielmannszüge took place in Lommatzsch. In bright sunshine and temperatures up to 31 degrees in the shade, around 500 participants from all over Saxony came to prove their musical skills. Chairman of the Lommatzscher Spiellute e.V., Felix Böttcher, spoke of a special challenge through the heat that was demanded by both the musicians and the spectators. It was the sixth edition of this traditional event, which has been held in Lommatzsch since 1999 and was carried out this year with a particularly large enthusiasm, as the MDR reported.

On the first day, eight playmates performed by adults, while seven playmates' trains of the children followed on Sunday. In addition, fanfare trains, shawm orchestra and brass musician from the Hungarian twin town of Kiskunmajsa joined, which the event not only enriched locally but also internationally. The possibility of participating for children and adolescents up to 16 years of age ensures that the tradition of play-up music will be passed on to the next generation, a central concern of the Landes- Musik- und SpielleutSportverband e.V..

evaluation and criteria

The performance of the Spielmannszüge was assessed by a jury based on three main criteria: the music-friendly game with melody and rhythm instruments as well as the external impression during marching. There was a little scope for extraordinary talents: In some cases, older musicians with a deduction of points were also approved as long as they met the basic requirements. As a rule, the participants bring preliminary training at least two years, while special talents can take part after a year.

special features of the event

The event offered an extensive supporting program for the audience. Entry was free for children under the age of 12, while adults were able to take part in a daily rate of 10 euros or a weekend ticket of 18 euros. The game party party in the evening, which was accessible for 5 euros, was also particularly popular. There were plenty of catering - from sausages to steaks to crepes and ice cream, whereby visitors were asked not to bring their own dishes.

For the little guests, entertainment options such as a bouncy castle and a box slide were ready, while a large sandpit invited to play on the beach volleyball court. The toilet facilities, including a barrier -free container, could be used free of charge, which increased the comfort for everyone present.

This year's national championship of the game was not just a festival of music, but a real community experience that demonstrated the connection in the music scene and beyond. The high musical standard of the participants, which can be seen in competitions and appearances, testifies to the successful work of the many volunteers who are trained by the Landes- Musik- und SpielleutSportverband e.V.. Here the tradition of game music is kept alive and also brought closer to future generations.

A look into the next few years shows that the national championships will continue to be an integral part of cultural life in Saxony in the future, with a concentrated load of music and joy for old and young.
