Spectacular stallion parade in Moritzburg thrilled 6,000 spectators!
A magnificent spectacle took place in Moritzburg: At this year's stallion parade, around 6,000 spectators were thrilled with impressive performances by 140 horses and the state stud's dedicated apprentices. Lukas Pietzsch, an apprentice at the state stud farm, drew loud applause with his daring performance by balancing on two galloping riding horses. Despite being nervous, he radiated a lot of self-confidence, which Romy Schönherr and her daughter Emilia from Dresden also appreciated. “This is simply fantastic!” said the two, who clearly enjoyed the event.
The stallion parade presented 18 impressive displays that harmoniously combined the maintenance of tradition and the current work at the state stud. In addition to dressage horses and show jumpers, it was the shots of the Moritzburg stallions that shone in several pictures. A special highlight was the presentation of the winner of the Federal Championships for Heavy Warmbloods, Tito de Saxe, presented by Lars Krüger. The Saxony Police cavalry squadron with its 21 geldings also left a lasting impression.
Diverse performances and impressive tradition
The event was a true celebration of horse breeding. Andreas Franke, a spectator, was particularly fascinated by the multi-horse attraction, which showed up to 30 horses in action at the same time. Apprentice teams also played an exciting pushball game, which ended in a 3-3 draw. It was also remarkable how the mares from the Graditz main stud farm and their foals won the hearts of the audience.
A truly majestic moment was when Jörg Piehozki rode as August the Strong, accompanied by a Saxon royal hunting carriage whose costumes came from the renowned Babelsberg film studios. The event came to a ceremonial conclusion with a trumpet solo and a 16-piece train in front of a detailed replica of a historic stagecoach.
Outlook for the stallion days 2024
The success of the stallion parade is underlined by the upcoming Moritzburg Stallion Days, which will take place on November 22nd and 23rd, 2024. Around 25 licensing candidates of the Saxon-Thuringian Heavy Warmblood breed are presented here, who are applying for the coveted licensing results. A festive breeders' evening will promote exchange between breeders and horse lovers, while the presentation of the stallions will take place both on hard ground and on the lunge. Those interested can find further information and ticket booking via the Horse Breeding Association of Saxony-Thuringia e.V. Click here for the website.
The tradition of the heavy warmblood, which was originally bred as a draft and chariot horse, is also reflected in its current role. These reliable and strong-character horses have not only celebrated success in driving sports, but are also valued partners in the leisure sector. A look at history shows that breeding almost came to a standstill in the 1970s, but thanks to passionate breeders, this traditional breed is coming back to life.
The next event at the Moritzburg State Stud will be the “Stallions in Advent” event on November 23rd in the new riding and event hall. An ideal event for all horse lovers!
