Tourists frustrated: Broken listening stations on Albrechtsburg!

Visitors to the Albrechtsburg in Meißen are currently not just interested in the historical flair. It could be an exciting experience thanks to the Histopads used, which offer digital journeys of discovery through the history of the famous castle. But the reality looks different. Ulli Heinlein and her family from Franconia had the bitter experience on the Pentecost weekend that many of the media stations were broken. The incentive for the trip came from a report by MDR about the innovative museum educational resources at the Albrechtsburg, which is considered the oldest castle in Germany.

The histopads, which provide interesting details about the porcelain factory, the court clothing of Sidonia of Saxony, as well as banquet dishes and art caches from the Second World War, “almost worked,” according to Heinlein. Unfortunately, the displays in the devices were rotated by 90 degrees, which led to confusion. In addition, many listening stations are not functional, which not only leads to dissatisfaction but also disappointment among visitors. The Heinlein family left the castle feeling disappointed and will not recommend the Albrechtsburg.

Technical problems and lack of resources

Uwe Michel, the manager of the castle, admits that the media stations are due to age and suffer above all from temperature fluctuations. Many of the components are tired and urgently need to be replaced. However, repairs are a major challenge due to the lack of specialist companies and unavailable spare parts. According to reports, Michel has already determined that it is no longer possible for all 26 media stations to function simultaneously.

In an effort to move towards the future, Michel is planning new concepts for future exhibitions at the castle. It will also be examined whether the existing media station housings can be used for other purposes in the interests of sustainability. This shows that those responsible at Albrechtsburg are willing to work on improvements to optimize the experience for future visitors.

Attractive options thanks to the latest technology

The Albrechtsburg is not only a historical building, but also offers an immersive experience with the use of augmented reality and atmospheric sound. So shows Schlösserland Saxony, that visitors have the opportunity to navigate the different rooms using interactive maps, go on treasure hunts and take historical selfies. These are exciting options designed to bring the historical experience to life and make your stay at the castle special.

Despite the technical difficulties, the potential of the Albrechtsburg remains undisputed. With the right investments and the necessary resources, the castle could become one of the most attractive destinations in Saxony. How Cultural heritage.digital emphasizes, the use of new media fundamentally changes the museum experience and opens up new ways of imparting knowledge.

It remains to be hoped that the Albrechtsburg will soon return to its usual form and that visitors will be amazed not only by the history but also by modern technology.
