Emergency services from Central Saxony are fighting the forest fire in Gohrischheide

A forest fire has been raging in the Gohrischheide near Zeithain for several days, and the situation is anything but relaxed. Emergency services from Central Saxony are actively working to bring the flames under control. Particularly noteworthy is the water supply fire brigade, which set off for the fire area on Thursday morning with forces from Burgstädt and Sachsenburg/Irbersdorf. After around twelve hours of work, the team has done its job for the time being. However, another mission is imminent: 22 firefighters are expected to return in the evening landkreis-mittelsachsen.de reported.

The situation is serious. Fire sources are located near places such as Jacobsthal, Neudorf, Heidehäuser, Lichtensee and Nieska. Fortunately, the fire was able to be contained from spreading during the night towards the nearby Bundeswehr barracks; Luckily the fire did not spread to the area. On Thursday, a federal police helicopter was in action and dropped an impressive 63,000 liters of fire-fighting water. Higher forest fire warning level

Forest fire warning level 3 currently applies in Central Saxony.
