Freiberg Garden Day: A celebration for families and garden lovers!
On Sunday, August 17, 2025, Freiberg will be the venue for all garden lovers and nature lovers. The Freiberg Garden Day takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the gardens on Brückenstrasse and promises a colorful program for the whole family. View reports that the event is organized in cooperation with the associations “Waldfrieden”, “Brückenstraße” and “Unit” as well as the regional association of Garden Friends Freiberg.
There are a variety of attractions as part of the garden day. From a dealer mile to demonstrations by the renowned vegetable carver Heinz Albert to specialist advice on sustainable food processing, which is led by an experienced speaker from Dresden. An auction of acrylic paintings will also raise funds to benefit a charitable initiative. In addition, little visitors can look forward to nature-oriented offerings that promote sensitivity to the garden and the environment.
A look behind the scenes
The Regional Association of Garden Friends Freiberg e.V. is an important institution in the Central Saxony district that looks after the interests of 116 allotment gardening associations. With around 5,325 plots and around 4,700 members, the association is a mainstay of the local gardening industry. gartenverband-freiberg.de states that this association not only represents the interests of allotment gardeners, but also actively contributes to securing the existence and development of the gardens.
One of the main tasks is to create a contractual framework and to organize the professional training of garden consultants and value investigators. The allotment gardens, which stretch fromrechnerberg-Bienenmühle to Siebenlehn, are considered the communities' green lungs. Many young people also learn how to interact responsibly with nature here.
Sustainability aspects in horticulture
More and more garden lovers are choosing sustainable practices in their gardens. Project Wings illustrates how sustainable agriculture works: it avoids the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and promotes soil health by growing diverse plants. This not only for the health of the soil, but also for a better harvest and diversity in the gardens.
A sustainably managed garden has many advantages. Yields can be increased with little effort, while the soil can regenerate after harvesting. The focus is on foods such as fruit, vegetables and spices. The garden food from regional institutions, such as the recycling village, also contributes to the development of healthy and regional products.
The Freiberg Garden Day is an experience for all the senses, combining enjoyment, education and environmental awareness under one roof. It becomes clear here that gardening commitment is much more than just growing plants - it is a passion that promotes a sense of community and respect for our earth. So mark August 17th as a day to put down roots in Freiberg!
