Heavenly children's musical Heaven and Earth” conquers Freiberg!
In Freiberg, in the CVJM's leisure center, a very special event for small artists is currently taking place. From October 13th to 17th, 2025, 35 children in grades two to six will rehearse here for the children's musical “Heaven and Earth,” which is directed by the district catechist Anne Kopp and the musical experts Katharina Reibiger and Clemens Lucke. This heavenly adventure focuses on the story of creation from the perspective of the clouds and promises to captivate visitors young and old.
The children have a varied program of rehearsals, singing, games, painting and dancing, aimed at developing their talents in workshops on set and costume design, acting and solo singing. The big performance will take place on October 18th at 4 p.m. in the Petrikirche Freiberg, followed by another performance on October 19th in the city church of St. Marien and Laurentius Dippoldiswalde. Admission to these concerts is free, but donations are welcome to cover the project costs.
A look at Dortmund
While the Freiberg children are preparing for their performances, an equally exciting project is being announced in Dortmund: The new choral musical “Judith and the Miracle of Creation” deals with global challenges and the search for common solutions. The story, which tells of an unhappy love between Judith and Ammo, addresses important social issues such as the struggle between optimists and disappointed idealists and between technological progress and populism.
The heart of this choral musical work is a huge choir that accompanies the musical narrative and provides a colorful variety of musical styles, from pop and gospel to hip-hop and electronic. Tens of thousands of participants are expected to be involved, with the aim of triggering a transformation from fear into courage and resignation into confidence. The project is scheduled to tour throughout Germany in 2027 and offers all generations the opportunity to participate.
Climate crisis and togetherness
Another exciting choral musical that enriches the German cultural scene is “The Miracle of Creation,” which will premiere on February 21, 2026 in Dortmund’s Westfalenhalle. Under the musical direction of Michael Herberger, the biblical story of the creation of the world is used as the central background. The plot revolves around the love story of Judith and Ammon in an increasingly challenging world and addresses conflicts between generations and social polarization.
With a pop musical style and the integration of current pop music and hip-hop, this piece is intended to show how important exchange and togetherness are despite all conflicts. The inclusion of a large choir is integrated into the plot not only musically but also narratively and promises a rousing performance.
Participation in these two wonderful projects shows that art not only brings joy, but also creates a space for important social issues and connects generations. While the children in Freiberg develop their talents, the choirs in Dortmund work on a hopeful future for everyone.
