Circular economy in Central Saxony: Discover opportunities for our region!

A lot is happening in the world of circular economy in Central Saxony! On November 10, 2025, a comprehensive potential analysis of the circular economy was successfully completed and the results are promising. Loud Central Saxony district There are great opportunities and challenges for a resource-saving and sustainable economy in our region. We don't just talk here - we really get things done!

The main aim of the analysis was to make existing approaches visible, identify synergies and develop concrete recommendations for action for companies, municipalities and regional actors. These principles of the circular economy can be applied to almost all industries in the region and show that Central Saxony has a diverse economic structure that is strongly anchored in the industrial and craft sectors.

Opportunities and challenges of the circular economy

The proximity to research institutions such as the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and the Mittweida University plays a crucial role and promotes knowledge transfer and innovation. The effects are already noticeable, particularly in the construction, manufacturing and recycling industries. Agriculture also plays its part by securing nutrient cycles and using biogenic residues.

But where there is light, there is also shadow. Of course, there are also hurdles that need to be overcome. The construction industry lacks standards and incentives for secondary materials, while the industry struggles with the challenging integration of secondary raw materials. Agriculture is also still heavily dependent on primary inputs, and in the recycling industry the quality and market acceptance of secondary raw materials must be ensured.

Digital solutions and new business models

The digital tools that create transparency are a ray of hope. Material passports and Building Information Modeling (BIM) enable better planning and traceability of resources. Networks and clusters promote cooperation and knowledge transfer between actors, which supports the transition to a circular economy.

The analysis also promotes new business models such as repair and reuse, which are becoming increasingly important. The results of the analysis are incorporated into the nationwide “Circular Rural Regions” model project, the findings of which are already being presented at events. The kick-off will take place on November 12, 2025 in Döbeln.

The project receives support from the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction as well as the Federal Institute for Building, Urban and Spatial Research and is part of the Territorial Agenda 2030. While we're on the topic of sustainability: There are also interesting developments in technology. For example, the HP Deskjet 1010, a low-cost inkjet printer aimed specifically at home users on a limited budget. With a print speed of up to 20 pages per minute in black and 16 pages in color, it could be the perfect addition to the home office. But be careful: the printer is delivered without a USB cable, so it's better to pack one!

Whether in the circular economy or in the home office - it shows that innovative solutions and projects are on the rise in Central Saxony. There is a lot to discover and create here!
