New rescue station in Frankenberg: safety guaranteed for the region!
A new rescue station has been inaugurated in Frankenberg, which not only meets the most modern standards, but is also intended to significantly improve the safety of citizens in the region. After 17 months of construction, the new building on Meltzerstrasse on the corner of Max-Kästner-Strasse was ceremoniously handed over.
With a total investment volume of around 2.5 million euros, the new building project on a spacious plot of 1,900 square meters represented significant progress in the area of emergency care. “The new station is an important part of our emergency service structure,” explained District Administrator Sven Krüger. “It will help to sustainably increase the safety of people in Frankenberg and the surrounding area,” the district administrator continued, while underlining the importance of the facility.
Modern equipment for the highest demands
The rescue station is divided into two functional areas: a vehicle hall for three emergency vehicles, including a separate washing hall, and extensive functional rooms. These include, among other things, an oxygen warehouse, material and logistics rooms as well as office rooms and relaxation rooms. The equipment with a photovoltaic system on the roof and an air heat pump also ensures environmentally friendly use of energy.
Around 32 employees will be available in shifts around the clock for emergencies, with around eight emergency services from the German Red Cross (DRK) Döbeln/Hainichen on duty per shift. The previous station in Frankenberg was no longer up to date technically and spatially, which made this new building all the more urgent.
Growing emergency service structure
The new station in Frankenberg is just part of a larger project: A total of four new rescue stations are being built in Central Saxony, with the new building in Frankenberg being the furthest along. According to the information from Sächsische.de Additional guards are planned in the Roßwein industrial area, which will replace the old guard in Naußlitz. These projects underline the Central Saxony district's commitment to continually improving emergency care.
Ensuring emergency care
Emergency care is one of the central components of the German healthcare system. But there are always doubts about the efficiency and quality of care, as a study by the Björn Steiger Foundation in collaboration with the Bertelsmann Foundation shows. Deficiencies in organization and processes have been identified and urgent reforms are needed. The new rescue station in Frankenberg could be a step in the right direction to optimize emergency care in the region.
In 2024, the Central Saxony district recorded around 28,800 missions with ambulances and 41,600 missions with ambulances. This highlights the need to invest in emergency services infrastructure. Rescuescape.steiger-stiftung.de provides a wealth of information on this urgent issue.
The new rescue station in Frankenberg is not just a modern building, but a crucial element for the future of emergency care in Central Saxony.
