Zschochau celebrates 840 years: Festival of the village community at the weekend!

A really big celebration is coming up: The village of Zschochau is celebrating its first documented mention 840 years ago! Organized by the newly founded Zschochau Village Life Association, the festival will take place next Saturday, August 30th, from 2 p.m. on the festival site on Mögener Straße. In doing so, the residents are setting a special example for the community and the history of their place.

The association, which was founded in June 2024 by twelve committed villagers, has set itself the goal of actively shaping and improving life in the village. An important concern is to create memories and experiences for the village community and their children. Smaller festivals, such as a May festival or the mulled wine festival, have already been held successfully. Preparations for the big event have also been in full swing for around a year. Club members meet regularly to plan and prepare everything.

The festival program: entertainment and culinary delights

Visitors can look forward to a varied program. The drinks supply is ensured by Döbelner Drinksvertriebs GmbH, while Manfred Bänsch is responsible for the culinary catering. A large tent is set up and a “sample coffee drinking session” ensures that the coffee is served fresh and tasty. In addition, many hobby bakers offered their support and contributed delicious cakes to the festival.

A bouncy castle will be available for younger guests and face painting will be offered. The musical entertainment will be provided by the Jahnatal brass musicians and live music with Vivien McCount from 5 p.m. The highlights of the evening are the concert by a double by Kerstin Ott at 7:30 p.m. and the subsequent DJ party with DJ Mark from 8 p.m.

History of the town of Zschochau

Zschochau has a multi-faceted history that dates back to 1185, when the place was first mentioned as a manor. The name Zschochau itself appeared in 1791. The place once belonged to Meißen and Lommatzsch before it became part of the Döbeln district in 1952 and was incorporated into Ostrau in 1968. Historically, the manor was a center for gastronomy, crafts and agriculture, including an independent sheep farm and a large market garden. From 1945 the estate underwent a restructuring to become the LPG “Käthe Kollwitz”, which was founded in 1953. What is particularly noteworthy is that Zschochau was the first fully cooperative village in the Döbeln district in 1959.

With the village festival, the village community not only pays tribute to the past, but also promotes community and togetherness in the village. The Comment on DNN highlights that such an initiative came from the local young people, which shows that the development of village life must come from within. Entry to the festival is free and parking is available along the street in the village. Everyone is invited to celebrate this special day with the 170 residents of Zschochau.
