Building bridges in Torgau-Oschatz: ASB and Diakonie united for the community!
Something is happening in the Torgau-Oschatz region - and not just during Advent. Two significant initiatives, strongly supported by the community, are actively committed to bringing people together and building bridges between generations. The Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) is moving forward with its new project “Experience life skills together”.
This project, which opens its doors next January, aims to promote cooperation between young and old. Managing director Thomas Reichel particularly emphasizes how important exchange and mutual learning are. "Loneliness in rural areas can be a big problem. That's why we want to create new meeting spaces with our offerings," he explains. The central meeting point will be the ASB service house in Oschatz, where a variety of workshops and decentralized offers are planned in craft businesses and social institutions.
Diverse topics and voluntary support
The topics offered as part of this project are diverse and range from social skills to health and exercise to tradition and crafts. In order to enable a broad transfer of knowledge, the ASB is also looking for volunteer supporters who would like to share their knowledge. It is important that all offers remain free so that no one is excluded.
In addition to the ASB initiative, the Diakoniewerk Oschatz-Torgau is committed to the same direction. For over 30 years, Diakonie has been offering support in various situations and is also part of the LVZ campaign “A Light in Advent” to finance its projects. The Diakoniewerk at Kirchplatz 2 is to be renovated in order to appear more inviting in the future.
A place of meeting
Another point of the redesign is the transformation of the garden into a real meeting place. Colorful walls, lighting accents and comfortable seating are planned here. A herb or flowering meadow should also help make the garden a lively and inviting place for people of all stages of life.
The support of the Oschatzer Land parish in the garden design makes it clear that the community is strongly behind these initiatives. These projects not only aim to combat social isolation, but also help foster a sense of community that is often lost in today's world.
As the Torgau-Oschatz region proves with these innovative approaches, community cohesion and support are not just words, but a living practice. It will be interesting to see how the projects develop and what impact they will have on the way people in the region live together.
A warm invitation to everyone who is interested: stay tuned and support these important initiatives to promote togetherness! For more information, see the article LVZ.
