Cadillac driver flees: over two per mille and drugs discovered!
An extraordinary incident occurred on Wednesday, July 16th, in Oschatz. When the police were called to a reported Cadillac with the engine running and signs of an accident, the situation turned out to be much more than just a normal traffic accident. Witnesses reported a suspicious man getting out of the car and disappearing over a wall into an adjacent property in an instant. As quickly as the man had appeared, he was out of sight again.
However, the authorities didn't take long to ask. The police and fire brigade were deployed, and a tracking dog and a drone were even used to track down the fleeing driver. Ultimately, the police found the 48-year-old man in his apartment, where they immediately detected a strong smell of alcohol. A breath alcohol test revealed frightening values: over two per mille. The driver had therefore far exceeded the legally set blood alcohol limit of 0.5, above which fines and driving bans could be imposed. In Germany the rule applies that from 1.1 per mille you are absolutely unfit to drive, which can also have criminal consequences, as ADAC explains.
Drugs and other crimes
But that wasn't the only problem for the driver. A rapid drug test came back positive for methamphetamines – another serious violation. During the search of his apartment, the police also discovered other substances suspected of being narcotics, which made the situation even more complicated. In Germany, driving under the influence of drugs is just as dangerous and illegal as driving under the influence of alcohol, which is also recorded in the Bußgeldkatalog. Drug violations are subject to similar penalties as those for alcohol problems, and there is still a risk of points in Flensburg and a driver's license being revoked.
The police have already initiated an investigation against the 48-year-old for endangering road traffic. A clear case of recklessness, which in the event of a moment of carelessness put both the safety of the driver and other road users at risk. In Germany, it is generally recommended to avoid alcohol and drugs while driving, as these substances severely impair reaction time and coordination. It is a risk that you should not take on yourself or others!
Consequences and outlook
The legal consequences of this incident could be significant. If you have a blood alcohol level of 0.5 or more, you not only face fines, but also points in Flensburg and even driving bans. With repeated violations, these consequences extend even further. If the suspicion of repeated violations is confirmed, the driver could even be required to undergo a medical-psychological examination (MPU), which is usually associated with high costs.
In the meantime, it remains to be seen how the investigation will develop and what penalties the man will ultimately face. The case shows once again how important it is to use alcohol and drugs responsibly, especially when driving. As ADAC emphasizes, such violations not only endanger your own life, but also the lives of others. It is therefore of great importance to be aware of the risks and, if in doubt, always resort to alternative transport.
All those involved can only hope that such incidents can be avoided in the future to ensure safety on our roads.
