Delitzsch: Tafel celebrates 20 years – those in need urgently need help!

The town of Delitzsch is buzzing, not just with the Tafel's passionate commitment, but also with local economic developments. Jutta Faak, who has been at the helm of the company for 20 years Delitzsch table has now decided to hand over the chairmanship to Ramona Kupke as part of its 20th anniversary. Kupke, who was once dependent on food aid, now faces the challenge of maintaining supplies for around 4,500 people in need. Given the increasing number of people in need of help, the food bank is finding it increasingly difficult to obtain enough food donations.

Almost 300 tons of food are collected every year, although Faak has to use unconventional methods because many supermarkets give away less surplus. The food bank particularly urgently needs a new refrigerated van in order to be able to safely transport fresh food. This technical support is a crucial prerequisite for continuing the valuable work for those in need.

Social support for those in need

In view of these challenges, initiatives such as the Volkssolidarität Nordsachsen are of enormous importance. This organization offers the opportunity to make targeted donations that directly benefit social institutions. Regardless of whether it's working with senior citizens, childcare or helping families - donations are targeted and can even be tax-deductible.

In times of rising living costs and a noticeable increase in the number of people in need, every support is needed. If you would also like to make a contribution, you can find the account details for donations on the Volkssolidarität website.

Commitment to food rescue

food sharing initiative, which is dedicated to food rescue. With over 500,000 “food sharers” and 15,000 cooperating businesses, the community manages to create around 7,500 possible uses every day to keep food out of the trash can. People's commitment to sustainable and responsible food use is impressive and provides valuable support for local food banks and other social institutions.

Donations to foodsharing cannot be allocated directly, but they go to supra-regional projects that benefit food protection. Ambitious plans are planned for 2024 to create nationwide structures and professionalize the initiative. Therefore every donation is needed here too.
