Delitzscher Tafel needs our help: Christmas campaign is coming!

The pre-Christmas season is just around the corner, and with it begins the “Light in Advent” fundraising campaign, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. As the LVZ reports, readers have the opportunity to support various social projects in the region. The focus of this year's fundraising campaign is on four important projects around Delitzsch, including the socio-cultural center, the Bad Düben bread basket and the Diakonie.

Particular attention is paid to the Delitzscher Tafel, which at this point looks back on two decades of successful commitment. Chairwoman Jutta Faak proudly announces that over 4,500 needy people will receive food for a symbolic amount of three euros. This is done by distributing surplus, high-quality food that the association collects - from baked goods to dairy products to incorrect fillings. The idea behind the Delitzscher Tafel originated in the USA and found its way to Germany in the 1990s.

Insight into the challenges

But not everything is going well: forecasts show an increase in the number of people who rely on free food. In addition, many food bank representatives report difficulties in obtaining food donations. Supermarkets are increasingly leaving less, which makes the work of the food banks even more difficult. The association is active in Delitzsch, Eilenburg and Bad Düben and urgently needs support from authorities, companies and retailers in order to continue to make the valuable resources accessible.

The Delitzsch Tafel not only helps feed those in need, but is also planning a big Christmas party for over 100 children in the Delitzsch community center. This event is intended to offer a nice change, but the use of the community center costs 450 euros - a fee that was covered by a fundraising appeal last year. Unfortunately, this represents an additional challenge, especially as the food bank is still looking for a new refrigerated van. Jutta Faak explains that a vehicle financed by the LVZ fundraiser three years ago was essential for procuring food and another is urgently needed - the purchase price is around 40,000 euros.

Future and succession

A change is also coming for Jutta Faak, as she plans to move back to the second row. Her successor will be Ramona Kupke, who has experience both as a former needy person and as a volunteer. This continuity shows that despite the challenges, the club has a strong foundation and will continue to serve the community.

In the past, LVZ readers have invested significant amounts in the food bank - a total of around 35,000 euros. This commitment will again be crucial in the coming months to support important projects and assistance for those in need in the region. The call is clear: Let us stand together and light a light in Advent for the people of Delitzsch! To find out more about the Delitzscher Tafel, visit the tablet website.
