A homeless Oschatzer fights for the invisible” – help us!

Jens lives on a bench in Oschatz and has a story that represents many of the “invisibles” among us. After losing his job, love and apartment, he is now homeless and wants to make the public aware of the plight of other homeless people. “You can’t see us, but we are here,” says Jens, who is committed to ensuring that society pays more attention to those in need. He is supported by Tafel Oschatz, which plans to create a network that connects helpers and people in need. A step in the right direction to break down the invisible walls between different worlds.

This problem is illustrated by a current study carried out by EBET, Diakonie Deutschland and ASH Berlin. According to the study, the living situation of homeless people in Germany has been increasingly worrying for years. Over 900 homeless adults were surveyed and the results are alarming: 13% live on the streets and 21.4% in extremely precarious housing situations. What is particularly striking is that 36% of those affected are EU citizens, only a third of whom receive social benefits. Diakonie provides further information on this in its Report on the living conditions of homeless people.

Investments in infrastructure

Eilenburg, on the other hand, is investing in the safety of its bridges. 90,000 euros have been earmarked for the next five years to regularly inspect 27 bridges. These measures are essential because the safety of these structures is rated on a scale of 1.0 to 4.0. The ratings are currently between 1.2 and 3.3. The tube bridge in particular has priority, as a new building is planned here for 1.2 million euros, although a time frame has not yet been determined. The bridge in Wedelwitz remains closed to cars due to a safety rating of 3.3, which underlines the importance of the tests.

Care and social contacts

In rural regions of northern Saxony, Corinna Winkler's butcher mobile is a real ray of hope. Many villages no longer have supermarkets and this not only ensures local supplies, but also promotes social contacts - a particularly important aspect for older people. The Laas agricultural cooperative plans to continue the tours through the villages. “The butcher mobile not only brings fresh food, but also a bit of life into our villages,” said a customer.

But it's not just rural areas that have their challenges. An incident from a village near Krostitz has also become known in the nearby area, in which a man was sentenced to a suspended sentence at the Eilenburg district court. He attacked a paramedic with a skateboard. Such incidents show how tense the social situation is. Resistance to law enforcement officers is not without consequences, even when they act in emergency situations.

Overall, there is a lot to do to improve the living conditions of people in the region, be it through social networks for those in need, investments in safe infrastructure or through initiatives such as the butcher mobile, which not only delivers food but also a piece of quality of life.

In addition, the Advent market in Delitzsch is just around the corner, which will take place from December 5th to 7th, 2025. The city has planned a security concept to ensure visitors have a pleasant and safe stay. The market is considered one of the most beautiful in the region and also offers an excellent opportunity to discover local products and properly celebrate the run-up to Christmas.
