Oschatz citizens give important tips for a better community!
Oschatz is the focus of interest - citizens were surveyed to find out how they perceive their city and what is really important to them. A current study carried out by the University of Leipzig has provided valuable insights. The students not only conducted interviews, but also explored the surrounding area and spoke to experts. At the “Listen!” event The results were presented at the E-Werk and were coordinated by Anja Helbig, a lecturer at the University of Leipzig. Professor Vera Denzer and her students are behind the findings on city perception, which had the motto: “Oschatz – a small town to feel good in?” LVZ reports.
The table discussions and analysis brought to light some interesting points. For people in Oschatz, important factors for their well-being are the availability of green spaces, trees, seating, cleanliness and access to public toilets. On the other hand, many people avoid the passage at the Thomas-Müntzer-Haus and the bus station. There is a good reason for this: many residents express concerns about unwanted encounters in these places.
Popular meeting places and sense of community
A bright spot, however, is the O-Park, which is seen as an identity-forming place, while the market in the city center or the evening market of the advertising community are valued. These places are not only venues for transactional encounters, but also strengthen the citizens' sense of community. Those surveyed stated that they feared the loss of meeting places and that it was important to offer organized activities and meeting places.
The citizens of Oschatz also show a positive attitude towards club work in the city. The voluntary initiatives close gaps in public services and clearly promote inclusion. Associations offer low-threshold participation opportunities, especially in the area of child and youth work, which further strengthens the community.
Outlook for the future
The results of the study make it clear that there is a desire to improve and help shape the city. Citizens appreciate the work the association does and demand more support and funding. The findings of the survey provide valuable guidance for future urban development in order to continue to make Oschatz a place in which everyone can feel comfortable.
