Summer holiday jobs: Students in Oschatz and Torgau earn money here!

The summer holidays have begun and right from the start a large number of young people in northern Saxony are using the time for holiday jobs. As the Oschatz Employment Agency reports, there are 69 holiday jobs available, with many places already filled in Torgau and Oschatz. These opportunities not only offer a first insight into company processes, but also help young people with career orientation. P-D Glasseiden in Oschatz is particularly popular, offering 18 student jobs in production, logistics and mechanics - unfortunately all of these have already been filled.

The tasks for the holiday jobbers include auxiliary tasks, such as equipping systems and supporting maintenance work. With a pay of 11 euros per hour, the young people can experience even more what it means to gain a foothold in professional life, despite the challenges. There is also positive feedback from returnees who were able to gain experience in these holiday jobs and then started training.

Legal framework and working hours

Of course, the jobs also have legal framework conditions that are important for the protection of young people. According to this, children under 15 years are allowed Youth Labor Protection Act with parental consent, work a maximum of two hours per day. From the age of 15, daily working hours may be up to eight hours, although the maximum working weeks are limited to 40 hours and the total duration is limited to four weeks. Working hours for 15 to 17 year olds must be between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., although there are exceptions if young people work in catering or agriculture.

Young people are also entitled to breaks: if they work between 4.5 and 6 hours, they are entitled to at least half an hour of break. If you work more than 6 hours, you will also have to take a break of at least 60 minutes. A health certificate may be required for certain jobs, and some professions require proof of good conduct.

Tips for holiday jobbers

If you want to take a holiday job this year, you should also find out about your rights. The minimum wage applies to holiday jobs from the age of 18, but there are specific economic regulations for younger young people. Up to 538 euros per month are possible tax-free, and there are no social security contributions if the job is limited to three months or 70 working days.

The combination of gaining valuable experience, developing soft skills and the opportunity to try out the world of work makes these summer jobs a fantastic opportunity for many young people. Seniors and young people should always be aware of their rights and, if in doubt, consider seeking help from a trade union. Because it is everyone's responsibility to protect young workers and treat them decently.

In summary, summer jobs offer a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience as well as earn some extra money - so let's get to work applying and use your summer holidays wisely!
