Ursa in Delitzsch: Prepared for Europe's future despite the construction crisis!

In recent years, Ursa Deutschland GmbH in Delitzsch has undergone remarkable development. Despite the current construction crisis, the company, which has been producing insulation materials for around 30 years, remains an important player in the industry. How LVZ reported, the products, especially the glass wool insulation, are supplied to both building materials retailers and hardware stores and contribute to the energy transition in Europe.

The Delitzsch factory currently employs up to 200 people, while the neighboring factory in Queis employs between 50 and 100 workers. Ursa is part of an international group of companies based in Madrid and has around 1,500 employees in Europe, including around 280 in Germany. The company not only supplies the domestic market, but is active in more than 40 countries and operates a total of eleven production sites.

Challenges and adjustments

The corona pandemic caused demand for insulation materials to rise sharply, which was due to low interest rates and government subsidies. But Russia's attack on Ukraine brought unexpected challenges. Material and energy costs rose, interest rates were increased and numerous funding measures were scaled back. This led to a significant decline in new construction and a renovation-related decline rate that is below the required level.

Business relations with Russia were ended after the start of the war, so the focus is now increasingly on southern, eastern and western European markets. Despite the current market weakness, Ursa remains a stable employer in Delitzsch and is in close contact with the city to improve traffic routing and location development. Economic development is increasingly focusing on optimizing the local framework conditions.

Sustainability in focus

Ursa meets all requirements for modern insulation materials in Germany. What is particularly noteworthy is that the glass wool insulation consists of 70% recycled material. The dismantling of buildings and the recycling of building materials are becoming increasingly important, which the company would like to take into account in its future strategy. Ursa's plans include saving up to 219 tons of CO2 annually, which will make a positive contribution to the ecological balance.

However, finding qualified personnel is a challenge. We are looking for electricians, industrial mechanics, production employees and forklift drivers. An increasing demand for insulation materials is expected in the long term, due to the energy transition and a growing need for renovation. According to Ursa, future growth in new construction depends heavily on the political framework.

Overall, it shows that Ursa is well positioned despite the adverse circumstances and is planning for the future with an innovative approach. Developments in the industry are closely linked to the political landscape, and Ursa remains a key player in the challenges and opportunities facing the construction industry.
