Osterburg is revolutionizing the electricity market: regional green electricity for everyone!

More and more people in the region are interested in sustainable electricity. A trend that is being fueled by the efficient offerings of the Osterburg electricity market “EnwiO” and the newly opened wind turbine. Christina Barchmann, spokeswoman for Bayernwerk Regio Energie, reports that consumers have an increasing need for regionally produced green electricity. The initiative is intended to bring electricity consumers and producers closer together. Heiko Karg, Managing Director of Energiewerke Osterburg, emphasizes that there is already a new, well-thought-out electricity tariff that even offers offers for specific towns and streets. However, the concrete implementation of this tariff depends on the commitment of the providers.

Osterburg wind farm: A step in the right direction

The communities can look forward to a breath of fresh air. The wind farm in Osterburg has finally started operations after a long planning phase. With three wind turbines that together produce almost 11 megawatts, a new milestone in regional energy production is being set. Green electricity production in Germany already shows that in 2019, for the first time, more electricity was generated from renewable sources than from hard coal and lignite. The wind farm expects an annual yield of around 32 gigawatt hours, which corresponds to the consumption of almost 13,000 households. In addition, around 14,000 tons of carbon dioxide are saved every year - a clear step in the right direction for climate protection.

These positive developments are due not least to the high proportion of wind power, which now makes the largest contribution to decentralized electricity generation in Germany. In the Avacon network, the share of renewable energies is an impressive 185% of network sales. The recipe for success lies not only in the technology: the citizen participation offers, such as the savings bond with a fixed interest rate, promote the acceptance of the wind turbines and are clear evidence of the focus on regional value creation and nature sustainability.

The look into the future

If you look at the figures for the use of renewable energies, it is clear that the energy transition in Germany is making progress. In 2024, the share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption was 22.4%, an increase that underlines the trend towards sustainable energy production. The target for 2030 is already 41% - a challenge that the Osterburg region would also like to take on. A clear indication of the growing importance of wind and solar energy, which are not only important economically but also ecologically.

Overall, it is time to look forward. Progress in energy production shows that it is possible to meet the need for sustainable energy and also improve the environmental balance. Who knows, perhaps Osterburg will soon serve as a model for other communities that want to rely on renewable energy. The wind is already blowing in a promising direction - and that's a good thing.

MDR Saxony-Anhalt reported that more and more people want to purchase sustainably generated electricity from the region. The Stendal district highlights the importance of the wind farm for regional value creation. Also underlines the Federal Environment Agency how important renewable energies are for the development of Germany.
