Political change in Saxony-Anhalt: AfD clearly leads the survey!
In Saxony-Anhalt, the question of political change is coming into focus. A current survey shows that the population is increasingly looking for alternatives MDR reports. The state chairman of the AfD, Martin Reichardt, sees this mood as an opportunity to win a parliamentary majority. This could become noticeable next year in the state elections on September 6, 2026. There are still twelve months to convince the electorate and spread the “positive Vision 2026”.
As is well known, Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff of the CDU has announced that he will leave the country if the AfD actually wins a majority. His party colleague, the CDU chairman and top candidate Sven Schulze, put the survey results into perspective as a snapshot and pointed out that the election campaign had not yet started. But he also emphasized that the majority of those surveyed want a CDU-led government and pointed to the high profile of him and Haseloff among the electorate. However, he acknowledged that the survey also reflects a general dissatisfaction with politics - particularly when it comes to federal policy.
Election polls and their importance
It is important to emphasize that election polls merely reflect the current political mood and are not guaranteed to be reliable predictions of the upcoming election results. How Dawum explains, polls can vary by 1 to 3 percentage points due to statistical errors. This is particularly relevant considering that the mean average deviation in the last state election in 2021 was 2.86 percentage points.
The last election also showed that maximum deviations of up to 10.1 percentage points are not uncommon. These factors are crucial for campaigns to make strategic decisions and seize opportunities to mobilize voters.
Current trends in voter behavior
A look at the current election trends Politpro shows the AfD at the top with 37.5 percent, followed by the CDU with 28.2 percent. The Left has recorded an increase of 8.7 percent in the last three months, while other parties such as the BSW suffered a loss of 7.7 percent. These movements clearly show that the political landscape in Saxony-Anhalt is in flux.
The distribution of votes for a stable government formation will be exciting. To form a majority, 42 of the 83 representatives are needed. Currently, the left-wing parties have 27 seats, while the right-wing parties have a total of 70 representatives. This suggests that the election campaign in the coming months will be crucial in determining the country's future political direction.
The coming months promise to be very dynamic as parties prepare for next year's election and try to convince voters of their goals.
