What is behind these unusual temperatures? An inversion weather pattern keeps cool air above the ground while the mild air masses spread over higher elevations. Experience has shown that lower temperatures of around ten degrees Celsius can be expected on the Fichtelberg - but no new records are expected here. The Bohemian wind, which brings cold air from the Bohemian Basin, also ensures cooler conditions in Lusatia.

According to meteo.plus, the average values for November, which are based on the period from 1981 to 2010, are usually well below the current maximum values. Last year 2023, November temperatures were around 5.2 degrees, a deviation of plus 0.8 degrees from long-term averages. However, historically the averages have been similar in each year, making the current records even more remarkable.
The precipitation statistics show that November 2023 was 16.4 mm below average with 35.0 mm of precipitation. This could be related to the current extreme temperature fluctuations and the inversion position. The duration of sunshine is also interesting: a statistical deviation of 17.4 hours was found here last year - a clear statement in terms of weather behavior.

However, the weather situation is now expected to change. On Thursday it will remain mild in the lower elevations of Saxony, with temperatures between eleven and 14 degrees Celsius.
