Saxony shines: life satisfaction reaches pandemic levels!
In Saxony, life satisfaction increased in 2025. The current survey on Happiness Atlas shows that the average satisfaction of Saxons rose from 6.87 points in 2024 to 6.96 points. This means that people in Saxony are now as happy as they were before the corona pandemic. The highest value to date was achieved in 2019 with 6.98 points.
On a scale from 0 (not satisfied) to 10 (completely satisfied), it can be seen that despite the increasing satisfaction, the financial situation is perceived by many Saxons as inadequate. This is particularly clear from the fact that the annual disposable income in Saxony is around 2,000 euros below the national average. Nevertheless, many Saxons are satisfied with their working life and family life, which has a positive effect on the overall rating.
Further developments in life satisfaction
The survey results paint a differentiated picture. Teenagers, young adults and middle-aged people in particular experience an increase in their life satisfaction. Sächsische.de highlights that the decline in satisfaction among people over 60 is a significant issue. In addition, women and urban residents report a decline in happiness, while men and residents of rural areas rate themselves as happier than before the pandemic.
Another interesting aspect are the regional differences within Saxony. West Saxony, for example, is more satisfied than East Saxony, although the gap is increasingly narrowing. The positive development in satisfaction with family even exceeds the national average, which represents a ray of hope for the people in this region.
Germany-wide insights
General life satisfaction in Germany is stagnating and only shows a slight increase of 0.03 points to 7.09 points compared to the previous year. Despite the positive reports about work, family and leisure time, satisfaction with income is also declining here.
