Altenberg is planning a rapid speed coaster: the city council will decide soon!

There is exciting news in Altenberg for all leisure lovers and adrenaline seekers. The city is planning to build a new speed coaster on the popular adventure mountain. Construction day is already looming: the city council will vote on an amended development plan on July 22nd that could pave the way for this attraction. Sächsische.de reports that this recreational ride, which features a 240-meter-long descent and speeds of up to 60 km/h, is expected to not only increase excitement but also drive visitor numbers to the region.

The plans for the speedcoaster took shape over three years ago. Wiegand Erlebnisberge GmbH, which already operates the ski and toboggan slopes as well as a summer toboggan run, is planning a route that will run parallel to the existing summer toboggan run. This new attraction is intended to complement the current leisure offerings such as the wooden ball track, mountain carts and a climbing labyrinth. According to an estimate by Wiegand Erlebnisberge, approval could not be granted until autumn 2025 at the earliest, with construction not realistically starting before 2026.

News from the region

Compared to the previous number of visitors, which already attracted around 30,000 guests to the Altenberg summer toboggan run this year, the speed coaster is seen as a further highlight in order to meet demand in the main season and on weekends and to further increase the attractiveness of the adventure mountain. Last year, the Muldenbahn recorded a total of around 60,000 visitors, which shows that there is a lot of potential for growth here.

The income from the existing attractions is used sensibly: the focus is on maintenance, repairs, personnel and marketing. In addition, for the

Night tobogganing, which is planned for July 26th and August 30th and will take place until 10 p.m., has already been heavily advertised.

Support for tourism

A central driving force behind the creation of new attractions is to strengthen year-round tourism in Altenberg. This is also supported by the current funding programs, which are intended to encourage small and medium-sized companies as well as municipal companies in the field of commercial tourism to invest in year-round offers. Sachsen.de highlights that investments of up to 800,000 euros are possible in state-recognized health resorts and resorts in order to reduce dependence on ski tourism.

For the city of Altenberg, offers like the Speedcoaster are crucial to boost purchasing power and have a long-term positive impact on the budget situation. With a diverse range of leisure activities, the region will remain attractive for day-trippers and holidaymakers in the future. So you can be sure: the rollercoaster of emotions has only just begun in Altenberg!
