Naturalization in Saxony is currently the focus of an application from the AfD parliamentary group's migration policy spokesman, Jonas Dünzel. He noted that requests for naturalization have exploded in recent years. Particular attention is paid to Leipzig, where the number of naturalizations rose from 583 to a whopping 1,586 between 2022 and the first half of 2025 - a more than five-fold increase in just three years. But the rapidly increasing trend raises questions. While naturalization applications in the city of Leipzig are almost never rejected - in the first half of 2025 the rejection rate was a magical 0.63 percent - the situation in the Zwickau district is completely different. The rejection rate there over the same period is a shocking 27.78 percent. Jonas Dünzel expresses concern about the naturalization practice and wonders whether all procedures are transparent and fair.

Language certificates under suspicion

Another interesting point is the lack of clarity about the authenticity of language certificates. The government of Saxony has estimated that the number of fake certificates in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district could be between one and nine. However, Dünzel fears that the number of unreported cases of forged documents could be significantly higher. The questions about transparency and reliability in the naturalization process cast a shadow on the migration practice in the region.
