Heidenau is experiencing a cinema renaissance: open-air film evenings in summer!
Finally there is a cinema atmosphere in Heidenau again! After more than 20 years without a cinema, citizens can look forward to some unforgettable open-air cinema evenings this summer. Cinema August will be ceremoniously opened on August 2nd, 2025, with a film reminiscent of “Mindcraft”. Admission begins at 7 p.m. and visitors can look forward to a photo box and plenty of space for blankets and chairs. The Hofnacht in Pirna also takes place on this day, which should only heat up the mood even further.
The event lasts several days: from August 27th to 31st, two films will be shown every day at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., combined with a family and tenant festival. The best part? Entry is free for everyone – regardless of living situation. Heidenauers can vote on the film screenings until July 15th. So far around 200 people have voted for their favorites.
Film selection and program highlights
The films that have already been scheduled include “Back to Black” on August 29th and the classic “Dirty Dancing” on August 30th. The films proposed for the 8 p.m. screenings are very popular, including “Pretty Best Friends,” “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledoor's Secrets.” Even the little ones don't miss out: Films like "Inside Out II", "How to Train Your Dragon", "Paddington in Peru" and "The Lion King" are planned.
The Heidenauer sports club will take care of your physical well-being and fire up the grill from Friday to Sunday. The cinema evening is rounded off with beer table sets that are set up in front of the screen and the opportunity to take a seat on the lawn. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and drinks, while chilled refreshments will be sold on site.

Heidenau joins the list of attractive open-air cinemas that are very popular in Germany in the summer months. According to the Federal Association for Open-Air Cinemas, Kinosommer Deutschland, there are now over 20 open-air cinema locations, which are often located in picturesque places such as rivers, castles or in city parks. For example, the cinema at the Olympiasee in Munich or the film nights on the banks of the Elbe in Dresden, which attracted over 276,000 visitors in 2022.
The open-air cinema season is accompanied by many events that enable cinema-goers to experience not only films but also live acts or simply enjoy a good meal.
