Lisa Thea Steiner remains leader of the Left: Signal for women's power!

In an impressive election, the district party conference of the Left in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district on October 25th in Pirna appointed Lisa Thea Steiner again as chairwoman of the party. This decision was announced on November 2, 2025, and it appears that the 36-year-old, who has been in office since 2023, already has a clear vision for the future. In her impassioned speech after her re-election, Steiner emphasized that her role as a mother had by no means made her calmer. Quite the opposite: She sees herself as having a responsibility to fight for justice and equality and describes capitalism, patriarchy and fascism as three faces of the same injustice that need to be fought.

New to the management team is Aileen Thonig, who was elected deputy district chairwoman. Ulrike Warnke takes over the finance department as treasurer, while Lea-Felicita Kubitz, as youth policy spokesperson, is intended to strengthen the perspective of young people on the district board. What is particularly noteworthy is that the entire district management of the Left Party is now made up entirely of women for the first time - a signal for equality, leadership and feminist politics in rural areas. These developments come at a time when equality between women and men in politics is more urgent than ever.

The path to more equality

The left has actively addressed the issue of gender equality. There have been calls for consistently strengthening equality within the party for a long time. Even though the proportion of women in the party has declined in the past, the Left is committed to bringing women into political offices and leadership positions. Grethe Nestor, a renowned voice within the party structures, once aptly said: “The greatest danger to equality is the assumption that we already have it.” This shows that the challenges are far from being overcome.

With concrete measures and goals, the Left would like to further address the living situation of women in everyday work and life and formulate corresponding political demands. It is essential that all members of the party work together to achieve these goals and thus make an active contribution to equal opportunities.

The Left also plans to step up its efforts against right-wing extremism in order to promote tolerant and respectful coexistence in society. These approaches not only represent the values of the left, but also a commitment to diversity and respect across society.

Overall, the re-election of Lisa Thea Steiner and the full female leadership is a milestone for the party, which will hopefully provide impetus for broader equality policy in Germany. Your plan to strengthen the voice of youth on the board gives hope for a dynamic and future-oriented policy on the left.

In addition, the nomination and election of strong women in leadership positions shows that the left is seriously concerned with feminist and gender equality policy. It remains to be seen what further steps the party will take in the future – we will keep you updated.
