The first measures to minimize danger have already been implemented, but extensive rock stabilization over a length of around 80 meters is now necessary to ensure the safety of drivers. The total investment for this necessary work is estimated at 125,000 euros, with the Free State of Saxony covering the costs. Drivers must expect disruptions during construction work, so a certain amount of patience is necessary.
The safety work includes the installation of a high-strength, anchored protective net that will cover an area of 200 square meters. To ensure the stability of the embankment, micro grouting piles are drilled two to three meters deep into the rock walls. Experienced specialists who work with alpine rope technology are used for this rock clearance. Loose rocks are removed from slopes at risk of falling rocks. Where necessary, mechanical removal or, in extreme cases, even blasting is used. The risk of such rock falls could increase again due to heavy rain or thaw, meaning that the safety measures must be continually reviewed.
