Spectacular robbery from the GDR: Where is the disappeared money?
Memories of a spectacular wage robbery that occurred in Dresden in 1977 are now being worked up in a ZDFinfo documentation. The attack, which took place on June 15 near the Nossener Brücke heating power plant, is considered the greatest wage robbery in the history of the GDR. This daring coup was committed by four perpetrators who arrived with a motorcycle and won the upper hand during the collection of money using a lovely liquid over the driver. With a bag full of wages of around 400,000 marks, they made themselves out of dust. Part of the money, around 120,000 marks, remains disappeared to this day, while the rest were buried in Glashütte. Services of witnesses are now required; Contemporary witness participation is intended to help bring the intrigant history to light again. While the documentation illuminates the exciting details around the robbery, it is also noted that the city traffic in which the incident took place shows a completely different picture of crime in the GDR. Statistics show that the crime rates in the GDR were significantly lower compared to the Federal Republic of Germany. Between 1970 and 1988 there were an average of between 640 and 810 criminal offenses per 100,000 inhabitants in the GDR, while in the FRG 2023 even 7040 criminal offenses were registered per 100,000 inhabitants. This phenomenon stands in strong contrast to most crime stories of that time, broken by special incidents such as wage robbery. The unforgettable case and its consequences
The robbery was not only a crime, but also left its shadows in society. The GDR crime statistics show that offenses such as theft and assault were more of the most common problems; Exotic cases such as wage robbery were the exception. These crimes were punished by specific paragraphs such as § 249, which defined such anti -social behavior. In reality, social and economic circumstances often displaced the sheer number of incidents, which meant that the population felt certain security in everyday life. At the local level, the robbery has shown sophistication and audacity, which also focuses on the view of future projects. Wiegand Erlebnisberge GmbH in Altenberg is currently the focus, which needs similar financial sums to maintain the operation of a ski and toboggan slope and a summer toboggan run. For the upcoming city council meeting, the decision to establish a new tourist attraction on the agenda is therefore also on the agenda. It remains to be seen whether these exciting plans in the region will find the desired response.
