Complete closure in Glashütte: Major construction work for safety and progress!

Things are getting exciting in Glashütte: From October 1, 2025, the city will begin to bring the K 9026 Prießnitztalstraße, known for its Saxon charm, into shape. This extensive construction work is urgently needed because the existing retaining wall at the sports field has suffered greatly in recent years and, according to the district office, is in inadequate condition. This was also noted by the district council in Pirna, which voted unanimously for the start of construction and an approval of around 4.4 million euros. The largest share of the costs, around 3.8 million euros, comes from the municipal road construction budget, which includes financing of around 2.5 million euros from the Free State of Saxony as well as the district's own resources, such as landratsamt-pirna.de reported.

The construction work will extend over the entire length of 360 meters and will not only affect the retaining wall itself. The drainage systems will also be renewed and a sidewalk with a width of 1.55 meters will be created. The expansion will also bring the route's public lighting up to date, which will benefit all road users.

Security aspects and diversions

The need for action is undisputed, because the current wall endangers traffic safety not only on the road, but also for users of the sports field. Important work was therefore on the agenda after the engineering planning had been completed. During the construction period, which is scheduled to last until November 20, 2026, the K 9026 will be completely closed. The diversion takes place in both directions via the S 182 Falkenhain to the B 170 and from Schmiedeberg via the S 183 to Niederfrauendorf and further via the S 190 to Glashütte. Pedestrians will be guided over the newly designed sections on the valley side, depending on construction progress.

The impact of this full closure will certainly create some challenges for residents and commuters. However, the gym can be reached via Lindenhofstrasse, although there will only be limited parking spaces. The city of Glashütte and the utility companies involved ask road users to be understanding and considerate during the renovation work.

Background and financial framework conditions

This construction project is part of a larger investment project in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district, where the financing board indicates a total need of around 1.07 billion euros to balance the municipal budgets. An additional special fund of 500 billion euros is planned for infrastructure projects in Saxony, a necessary measure to reduce the investment backlog, including in road construction projects wirtschaft-in-sachsen.de.

With these measures, the district aims to increase the quality of life in the region while at the same time getting traffic safety under control. The progress in renewing the infrastructure shows that those responsible have a good knack for future-oriented planning.
