Future of corporate loans: Challenges for entrepreneurs in Freital!

The entrepreneurs in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains region experienced an important evening on October 28, 2025 at the Technology and Start-up Center (TGZ) in Freital. Around 70 entrepreneurs accepted the invitation to find out about current developments in corporate financing. The evening was organized by District Administrator Michael Geisler, the Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden and the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Chamber of Crafts. The central topic was the question: “EU taxonomy, debt brake and infrastructure investment – how will corporate loans change in the future?” This topic is particularly relevant because the framework conditions for companies are constantly changing.

Heiko Lachmann from Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden gave an insightful lecture that dealt with the challenges and opportunities surrounding corporate loans. The focus was on the EU taxonomy and the need for companies to adapt their strategies to these new requirements. Participants learned details about the tools available to meet the EU taxonomy criteria, which are essential for sustainable business management.

Practical examples and networking

A highlight of the event was a practical example from master baker René Krause. He reported on how he implements the requirements of the EU taxonomy in his company and thus not only meets legal requirements, but also derives economic benefits. Such reports are worth their weight in gold because they provide those present with practical ideas on how they can prepare their own companies for the new standards.

Another important aspect of the evening was networking. Over a shared snack, the entrepreneurs had the opportunity to exchange ideas, make contacts and discuss ideas. Such opportunities are crucial to promote exchange within the region and create synergies.

Implications of the EU taxonomy

The EU taxonomy presents companies with new requirements that not only affect large corporations, but also medium-sized companies. The obligation to publish a non-financial statement will apply to large companies from 2024 as part of the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which replaces the current Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD). This means that companies with more than 500 employees and public interest companies must now take additional measures to comply with the new guidelines. It is expected that the 25% increase in monetary thresholds will also require smaller companies to create transparency through new reporting requirements.

These requirements are not only bureaucratic hurdles, but also open up opportunities for switching to sustainable business models. The evening's participants were able to recognize how important it is to react quickly and intelligently to these changes in order to remain competitive in the long term. Information about the EU taxonomy and the new reporting requirements provide a good overview of the necessary steps here.

The event in Freital sent an important signal: the exchange about current topics and challenges is of central importance for the economic development of the region. The often-cited changes are not just empty words, but they offer an opportunity to sustainably strengthen the local economy.
