Sports fun for children: Langendorf is thrilled by the athletics cup!

In the picturesque town of Weißenfels in the Burgenland district, sport is very important, and this can be seen particularly well in the young athletes of SV Grün-Weiss Langendorf. The children take part in athletics activities with a lot of enthusiasm, be it jumping over the stone steps or sprinting across the track. A real reason to be happy! The elementary school students emphasize the health benefits of sport and exude an enthusiasm that is contagious. MDR reports that department head Julia Martin has launched an initiative with the “Athletics Cup” for primary schools that is intended to teach young athletes about team spirit and sporting values.

The idea behind the trophy is as simple as it is effective: to get children excited about athletics. The competition takes place in teams of six from the local area and has established itself as a real crowd puller. “The values of team spirit, tolerance and ambition can be conveyed in a playful way here,” emphasizes Julia Martin.

“Stars of Sport” primarily honor commitment

A very special highlight for local sports clubs is the annual “Stars of Sports” award. This venerable tradition has been honoring outstanding projects that combine sport and social commitment for over 20 years. MDR informed that the state final in Saxony-Anhalt will take place on November 5th in the State Chancellery in Magdeburg, where Langendorf, together with five other clubs, has been nominated for the “Star of Sports” in silver.

  • „Hatsuun Jindo“ Karate-Club Magdeburg-Barleben: Besuche in Kitas und Horten.
  • HSV Haldensleben: Umgestaltung des Vereinsheims zur Dartstätte.
  • SV Anhalt Bernburg: Internationales Handballcamp.
  • Harzer Schwimmverein: Niederschwelliges Angebot für Schwimmabzeichen.
  • Kampfsportgemeinschaft „Jodan Kamae“ Zeitz: Projekt „Sicher durch die Nacht“ zur Sensibilisierung von Jugendlichen.

All of these nominees have already won the Bronze Star at the district level, which shows how highly the commitment is valued in the region. The state winner also has the chance to fight for the big gold star at the national final in Berlin in January. It's not just the medals at stake here, but also recognition for the clubs' hard work.

Sport promotion as a social concern

However, the promotion of sport goes beyond the individual competitions. The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe plays a central role in supporting sport in Germany. Around 1.5 million people take part in the German Sports Badge every year, and the savings banks help to recognize the best commitment from schools, clubs or companies. GDPR highlights that these initiatives benefit society as a whole and make sport accessible to everyone.

The savings banks bring people together with the annual sports badge tour of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and numerous events. This makes it clear: sport is not just a leisure activity, but an important part of our community life. Maybe one or two young athletes from Langendorf will soon shine on the big stages of sport - that's something to be excited about!
