Storm warning for Saxony: thunderstorms and heavy rain are imminent!

Today, June 15, 2025, the weather forecast for Saxony is dominated by thunderstorms and intense rain. The German Weather Service (DWD) will warn of extreme weather events starting in the afternoon, which could last until midnight. The DWD has issued a weather warning urging people in the region to be careful. From 3 p.m., thunderstorms with rainfall amounts of between 25 and 40 liters per square meter can be expected, accompanied by strong winds and hail, as Sächsische.de reports.

The day initially started with bright sunshine and temperatures between 26 and 32 degrees, while the mountain regions were milder at 23 to 26 degrees. But it doesn't take long for the weather to change. On Sunday night there were dry conditions with only a few clouds and lows of 17 to 10 degrees, but the good weather didn't last long.

The development of the weather situation

The probability of severe thunderstorms increases from the afternoon onwards. The air flowing in from the cold front not only brings the necessary precipitation, but also temperatures of up to 33 degrees, as DWD.de notes. Extreme weather conditions are to be expected: gusts of wind with speeds of 70 to 85 km/h are expected, and locally rainfall can even amount to over 50 liters per square meter in a short period of time. It is advisable to postpone outdoor activities until the morning or late evening.

Changeable weather is forecast for the coming days. On Monday night the thunderstorms will move eastwards. Monday itself will initially be cloudy and highs of 19 to 23 degrees are expected. From Tuesday we can expect a calming of the weather, which could be almost perfect with temperatures of 23 to 27 degrees.

Regional severe weather warnings

The severe weather center offers a comprehensive overview of the current severe weather warnings for various regions in Saxony. The map shows the areas of the Leipzig lowlands bay, the Ore Mountains and the Dresden Heath on Unwetterzentrale.de. A distinction can be made between advance warnings and acute warnings, each of which indicates different levels of danger.

The Dresden fire department had already recorded an impressive 698 missions during Pentecost week, including 185 involving emergency doctors. The storm not only caused fallen trees, but also significant damage in the region, which only reinforces the current warnings. The population is called upon to prepare for possible natural events and to follow the reports carefully.

Keep your eyes on the sky, regardless of the mid-morning sun - exercise caution as the clouds gather and the air becomes electrically charged. Here’s to a safe weather weekend!
