Something very special has happened again in Vogtland! On August 17, 2025, the dialect word of the year was chosen for the second time. This year's vote is all about good cuisine. “Hietroochbrettl” won the race. And what does that mean? Quite simply: it's the tray! The word has therefore found a special place in the hearts of the participants.
The vote, which took place under the motto “Zeisch aus dor Küch”, was able to mobilize almost 1,400 participants, as the district office of the Saxon Vogtland district reports. In addition to the winning word “Hietroochbrettl”, there were also exciting rankings: “Schnärpfel”, which refers to a closure, came in second place, and “Näselmoß”, the measuring cup, came in third place. A truly culinary trio that reflects the everyday kitchen repertoire of the Vogtlanders.
Dialect as a feeling of home
District Administrator Thomas Hennig (CDU) emphasizes how important the dialect is for the feeling of home. In a sense, this language is a link to the region and its traditions. Last year, “Aaziehzeich” was the first opportunity to choose a Vogtland word. This word stood for clothing. The success of the votes shows how deeply rooted the connection to the local language is.
