Donate blood and save lives: DRK invites you to the campaign on November 1st!
November is just around the corner and with it an important opportunity to help others. On Saturday, November 1st, the German Red Cross (DRK) invites you to a blood donation campaign at the Azurit Senior Center Pfefferkorn at Karl-May-Straße 12-14.
From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., all healthy people aged 18 and over can donate their elixir of life. This campaign comes at a time when around 650 blood donations are needed every day in Saxony, especially for patients who are dependent on someone else's blood after a serious accident or with tumor diseases. These are often people who urgently need this valuable help.
The blood donation process
For anyone interested, there are a few important points to note: First, register with ID. This is followed by a blood sample to determine hemoglobin before a medical questionnaire has to be filled out. The doctor evaluates the information and, depending on your health, gives his or her approval for the donation. Risk factors such as the use of certain medications or the presence of piercings and tattoos exclude a temporary risk of donating blood.
It's important to know that men are allowed to donate up to six times per year, while women can only donate four times a year. There should be at least eight weeks between two donations in order not to endanger the health of the donor.
Why donating blood is important
Blood donation is an essential source of medical care. For example, some blood components, such as platelets, have a maximum shelf life of just four days. It is therefore of great importance that sufficient donations are available to maintain continuous supply. Today's heroes are those who dare to donate. It's a simple step that can mean the difference between life and death.
If you are unsure whether you can donate, it is best to contact the DRK directly. Together we can ensure that those who rely on blood transfusions get better.
A little note for everyone who is still thinking about it: Our local donors will not only do something for society - they will also ensure that “civil courage” does not remain an empty phrase, but is filled with life day after day.
Ultimately, donating blood is not just a matter of giving, but also an opportunity to become part of a larger community that works for the well-being of others. Come by, get advice and become a lifesaver!
