Successful day of girls' football in Zwickau: momentum for the future!
On Saturday the DFC Westsachsen Zwickau's annual girls' football day took place in the Westsachsenstadion. At almost 30 degrees, football enthusiasts young and old looked forward to a colorful program about women's and girls' football. The event not only attracted numerous C-juniors, but also a team from FSV Ronneburg, who demonstrated their skills together with the hosts. Despite various challenges, the feedback from those responsible in Zwickau was consistently positive, which indicates the commitment and great desire to play that are essential for such events. As the Free press reported that the shaded areas were particularly popular - no wonder given the summer temperatures!
The DFC Westsachsen Zwickau is not only known for its events, but also as the only all-girls and women's football club in the Zwickau district and the surrounding area. Founded on January 11, 1995, the club now has 80 members and plays in the top division at state level. The aim of the club is to give girls and women the opportunity to play football in a club, to promote their skills and to integrate them into a performance- and age-appropriate game. The club is currently looking for reinforcements for its women's and girls' teams and offers interested players the chance to become part of this committed team. Modernizing women's football
Girls' Football Day is also in the context of the German Football Association's (DFB) overarching efforts to strengthen the role of women in football. Since the adoption of the “Strategy Women in Football FF27” in December 2021, the DFB has set itself ambitious goals, which include increasing the number of active female players by 25 percent and doubling the media reach of women's football. This shows a growing commitment to promoting talent and improving structures in women's football. The DFC Westsachsen Zwickau contributes to achieving these goals with its events.
Another point is to promote the visibility of women in football, both at the amateur level and in higher leagues. As part of the “FF27 strategy”, the DFB is also committed to more women in responsible roles in football, with the aim of having at least 30 percent women in committees and management positions. These efforts are directly related to the work of clubs like DFC Westsachsen, which work every day to offer girls and women a platform. More information is available on the DFB website.
