Funding for democracy projects in Zwickau – application by July 30th!

An exciting chapter for the city of Zwickau is coming to an end. The Zwickau Partnership for Democracy, which has existed since 2015, has initiated numerous initiatives and projects in the Old Gasometer that have improved coexistence in the city. In the last five years, almost 300 projects and events have been realized, benefiting around 90,000 interested citizens. During this time, a funding volume of around 200,000 euros flowed, in particular to promote citizen participation and dialogue among youth groups, such as Zwickau.de reported.

After the city council recently decided to continue the federal program “Living Democracy!” decided, the city is optimistic about the future. The next application deadline for measures up to 5,000 euros is already around the corner - it ends on July 30th. Interested associations and initiatives should hurry up, because the projects can only begin after the application has been submitted and must be completed by the end of the year. There are also extremely exciting goals among the new funding priorities. They include many opportunities to help shape society, from early childhood education that promotes democracy to creative leisure activities for young people.

Funding goals and opportunities

The measures that are supported are diverse. This includes addressing young people in the leisure sector, as well as combating inhumane behavior and violence. The aim is to reach primarily marginalized groups and to strengthen the participation of citizens. There are three main funding sources:

The commitment to democracy and civil society has found a broad basis in Zwickau. From street festivals to educational trips to readings – the variety of projects carried out is impressive. The new “Zwickau Ticker” project, which will focus on citizen surveys on local decisions from 2020, also plays an important role.

Democratic education and other projects

The Federal Agency for Civic Education, which is part of the “Live Democracy!” program. which works to prevent extremism and promote democracy, supports these initiatives sustainably. In addition to the Zwickau funding programs, there are a variety of European and national funds that aim to promote equal opportunities and social cohesion, such as bpb.de explained in detail. This includes, among other things, funding for integration and youth projects as well as numerous measures for political education.

Overall, it shows that Zwickau's commitment to a vibrant democracy and a tolerant society is on the rise. The upcoming projects offer numerous opportunities for citizens to actively participate and realize their ideas. All applicants should be good at keeping an eye on the next deadlines and submitting their contributions on time.
