Football historian Hardy Greens discovers Meeraner sports history!
Meerane, Deutschland - Football has many faces, and one of them is currently evident in West Saxony. Hardy Greens, an experienced book author and co -editor of the magazine "Zeitspiel", is currently on the go to develop a new project. The 62-year-old, who comes from Göttingen in Lower Saxony, recently visited the Meeran sports history. He not only tasted the alliances and rivalries of football, but also presented his own passion on two wheels.
By bike Greens climbed the "steep wall", a striking climb that is closely linked to the name of Täve Schur, a legend of cycling. On his way through this historically and sporty region, he met the traces that have left different sports. What was probably stirring in the idea of the historian while cycling through the landscape and giving himself the track of Tunisian traditions?
A look at the history of football
football has always been a central part of European culture, and the roots of this sport go back to the 12th century. So Planet reports that in Ashbourne, England, on Mardi Gras on Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday, the "Shrovetide Football" is played, an early form of the game that throws all rules overboard. The medicine -size ball is thrown into the crowd, and while the game lasts eight hours, the field is several kilometers tall, including a local river. It is hardly surprising that the authorities regarded such unregulated games as a threat to social order!
In the 19th century, football in England grew rapidly. If we experienced unregulated folk football games in districts or villages, the influence of schools and academies initiated a turn. From the 1830s, teachers of the public school called that the young players develop virtues such as fairness and team spirit. In 1846 the first written rules for the ball game were drawn up in Rugby, a decisive development that led to the widespread rules of Football Association (FA) from 1863
The development of football in Germany
In Germany, football initially had to deal with resistances. Konrad Koch, a high school teacher, took the initiative in 1874 and introduced the game in Braunschweig. The first football clubs soon emerged to bring the game to school and thus gained attractiveness. The foundation of the German Football Association (DFB) in 1900 finally represented another milestone in German football history.
The first appearance of the German national team on April 5, 1908 ended with a defeat against Switzerland. But regardless of this early setback, football in Germany developed rapidly, and the first German championship took place in 1903 when VfB Leipzig defeated the DFC Prague 7-2. The foundation was laid for a sport that still inspires and connects people worldwide.
Greens, who also has a close connection to British football in addition to his passion for football, regularly travels to Great Britain to experience the culture and humor of the British up close. He also took part in the "End to End" cycling classic in 2018, a route that leads over 2,000 kilometers from Land’s End in Cornwall to John O’Groats in Northern Scotland. The whole thing was immortalized in a book that includes impressive pictures and experiences of this trip.
The world of football, enriched by such stories of personalities as Hardy Greens, once again shows how deep the roots of this sport are enough and how it has developed over the years. It remains exciting to see which new facets and stories will develop from his travels and projects.
