Rain dampens the mood at the classic car meeting in the Erzgebirge!

On July 13, 2025, the tenth meeting of vintage car and railway enthusiasts took place in the picturesque Wilzschhaus, a district of Schönheide. Despite the charming atmosphere that this event promises, unpleasant weather conditions put a damper on the festival. Constant rain and gray clouds kept many classic car enthusiasts away and unfortunately resulted in a lower response than expected. Nevertheless, around 200 guests and around 60 historic vehicles were able to admire the event on the event grounds. The Historical West Saxon Railways Support Association took over the organization of the event and offered a colorful program for the visitors.

The 2025 classic and classic car meeting started at 10 a.m. at Schönheide Süd train station. But the external circumstances could not completely dampen the anticipation. The participants could look forward to a large vehicle show, while a bouncy castle and craft opportunities were available for the little guests. In addition, those interested were able to experience cab rides with historic shunting locomotives and watch some exciting film screenings. Particularly interesting was the hourly service of the “Wernesgrüner Eisenbahnexpress”, which transported visitors between Schönheide Süd and Tannenbergsthal. Even without the bright sunshine, these activities made the event enjoyable for those who came despite the rain. You can find further details and information about upcoming events on the Oldtimer Verein website.

Detours and events

However, some drivers had to be patient to get there. Due to construction work, the B283 was closed on both sides between the junction to Auerbach and the entrance to Morgenröthe until July 11, 2025 and required an official diversion. There were also restrictions in the Aue area that could not be overlooked. These circumstances probably contributed to the number of participants falling over the long weekend.

Another highlight for classic car fans is the upcoming Bavarian Grand Prix, which will take place in Aschau im Chiemgau on July 19th and 20th, 2025. This event will be held under the patronage of Interior Minister Herrmann and promises a festive atmosphere with a newly designed area that will be transformed into a historic race track. At the same time, we can admire many pre-war racing machines here - a true paradise for every motorsport fan. The event is called the Bavarian Tourist Trophy and gives hope for exciting competitions that will take place in 13 groups, as can be read on Motor Klassik.

So it remains to be hoped that the next classic car meetings will have better weather-wise and that the nostalgia of historic vehicles will continue to inspire many people.
