Fatal accident: Man dies after crash at Dänkritzer Schmiede!
A tragic traffic accident between Zwickau and Crimmitschau claimed a life. On November 5, 2025, a 46-year-old man drove his Opel off the road on Crimmitschauer Straße for reasons that are still unclear. He was driving towards Crimmitschau when his vehicle first drove over a footpath and a meadow before crashing into a tree. This is reported by the Free press.
The impact was so severe that the driver had to be taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he succumbed to his injuries around a week later, on November 11, 2025. During the operation, the fire department was on site with 15 helpers to support the rescue. Such serious accidents highlight the current traffic situation in Germany.
An alarming traffic statistic
Last year around 2.5 million road traffic accidents were registered in Germany. Although this represents a decrease compared to the previous year, statistics from Statista, that the number of accidents causing property damage is increasing, while the number of accidents causing personal injury has reached approximately the 1955 level.
An important goal that EU transport ministers are striving for is “Vision Zero”, a concept that envisages no more road deaths in Europe by 2050. But despite efforts, the downward trend in traffic fatalities has stalled since the early 2010s. In 2024, traffic deaths in Germany fell to 2,770, which is still below the average in relation to the EU statistics of 44 per million inhabitants.
Causes of accidents under the microscope
The most common causes of personal injury in road traffic are insufficient distance, inadequate speed and driving under the influence of alcohol. 40% of alcohol-related accidents in 2024 resulted in personal injuries, which should not be underestimated with 198 deaths and 17,776 injuries. Particularly noteworthy is the increase in accidents involving e-bikes and e-scooters, which resulted in 26,057 e-bike riders being injured or killed in 2024.
Cyclists, the second most common cause of road traffic accidents alongside drivers, are an important topic in the discussion about road safety. Human errors such as inattention and recklessness continue to be recurring causes of accidents, and it is clear: a rethink is required in order to sustainably improve the conditions on our roads.
The tragic case of the 46-year-old driver makes it clear how quickly life can end tragically as a result of a traffic accident. Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased at this difficult time.
