Looking for young talent: Altenburg starts literary competition 2026!
Something special is happening in the heart of the Altenburger Land! The Altenburg District Office has issued a call for all young people between the ages of 7 and 21 to take part in the 27th literary competition. Whether you live locally or go to school, now is your chance to get creative and put your thoughts on paper.
The deadline for submission of contributions is February 28, 2026. To ensure that everything goes smoothly, we recommend submitting the texts by email to kultur@altenburgerland.de. The conditions for participation are clear: max. five pages of text, font size 12 and the popular Arial font. And the topic? Here you have the freedom to write about joy, sadness, dreams or wishes - everything is allowed, from funny to critical to fairytale-like.
A look behind the scenes: The evaluation
But what happens after the contributions have been submitted? A jury will evaluate the submitted works. The best texts can look forward to a special award, and a literature workshop will even take place in spring 2026 in which the winning contributions will be discussed in more detail. There's definitely a lot of potential there!
Aside from the creative side, there are also exciting events in the area, such as Stargazing at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia. On the one hand, the fascinating universe can be observed here under the clear night sky. The event is organized by museum staff and the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club and is free to attend. It is advisable to find out about the weather conditions in advance, as the event will be canceled if it rains or has poor visibility. The Museum recommends bringing layers of clothing and comfortable shoes to best enjoy the night outdoors.
