Circus magic in the clinic: Art exhibition inspires Altenburg!
Good news from Altenburg: The Lindenau Museum Altenburg is doing its new exhibition “Circus!” attention to yourself. 17 impressive reproduction photographs of prints from the 20th century are now on display in the rooms of the Altenburger Land Clinic. The exhibition, which includes motifs of circus animals, jugglers and acrobats, is part of a long-standing cooperation between the museum and the clinic. "Circus!" offers visitors the opportunity to experience part of the collection during the temporary closure of the museum, which was necessary due to renovation and modernization work on the Altenburger Schlossberg [abg-net.de].
Above all, the variety of motifs shown promises to be a real highlight for art lovers. Not only is there a presentation taking place in the background, but the museum is also planning other interesting exhibitions, like last year with Friedheim Milczynski's city views.
Renovations and new perspectives
While the Lindenau Museum has a reduced exhibition capacity due to the renovation work, preparations for the future are already in full swing. As part of the renovation, the city floor will be completely redesigned. The planning team decided to change the material for the facade and terrace to a medium-strength limestone, dolomite. Self-supporting natural stone facades, large polished panels and modern technical equipment are complemented by interactive elements designed to involve visitors in the creative process. For example, the new ceramics workshop on the city floor will offer courses and events, which can then be experienced in an inviting foyer (lindenau-museum.de).
The museum's educational concept ensures that visitors not only enjoy the exhibitions, but can also become active themselves. The transparent room separation allows the audience to look over the artists' shoulders and become artistic themselves.
Funding opportunities for artists and cultural workers
Furthermore, it is important to know that support for art and culture in Austria continues even in difficult times. From May 1, 2024, all funding applications must be submitted online to the Art and Culture section of the BMWKMS. Despite financial bottlenecks, a total of 10 million euros is guaranteed for funding in the 2025/26 double budget. Whether individuals, groups or institutions, everyone is invited to apply. Particularly worth mentioning is the “Climate Fit Cultural Enterprises” program, which supports building-related investment measures to promote sustainability in art and cultural enterprises (bmwkms.gv.at).
The ongoing developments around the Lindenau Museum and the Altenburger Land Clinic show how important it is to keep art and culture alive even in difficult times. The new exhibition “Circus!” is just the beginning on the way to even more creative perspectives in Altenburg.
