Unemployment in Eichsfeld is falling: Positive numbers in October 2025!
There is hardly any news that makes people in Eichsfeld sit up and take notice as much as the current unemployment figures. While the labor market situation often seemed bleak in the past, the latest reports show an encouraging development: in October 2025, the unemployment figures in the Eichsfeld district fell again. But how does it compare to previous years? The unemployment rate is currently 4.1 percent, 0.2 percentage points lower than the previous year. The decline in foreign unemployed is particularly notable: this October only 433 foreigners were unemployed, which means a decrease of 28 people (-6.1 percent) compared to the previous month and by 102 people (-19.1 percent) compared to the previous year.
Labor market in transition
The positive developments are particularly visible in the job center, where there has been a noticeable reduction in unemployment. In the employment agency, the number of unemployed remained almost constant, with a slight decrease of 7 people or 0.7 percent. At the same time, it can be seen that in the area of basic security, known as citizen's benefit, unemployment was reduced by 8.4 percent, i.e. by 118 people compared to the same month last year.
But what about long-term unemployment? Well, here too there is light and shadow. According to the numbers from an analysis by news.de The situation was even less positive in January 2025. This month, unemployment rose 10.9 percent to 2,744 people, an increase of 4.1 percent compared to last year. There is also a worrying trend here: the proportion of long-term unemployed, i.e. those who have been without a job for over a year, has risen to 36 percent, which corresponds to 988 people.
Demographic differences
The discrepancy in the age groups is particularly striking: the unemployment rate among older workers (55-64 years of age) is 6.2 percent, while younger people under 25 years of age have a rate of 4.2 percent. It can also be seen that men are significantly more likely to be affected by unemployment than women. Of the 2,744 unemployed, 1,432 receive citizen's benefit, which corresponds to 52.2 percent. This represents an increase of 5.2 percent compared to the previous month. Even if the total number of citizens' benefit recipients, which currently stands at 3,659, was reduced by 1 percent compared to the previous month, the need remains high.

It remains to be seen how developments will develop in the coming year. In any case, it is important for the region to continue to focus on positive development in order to create jobs and integrate and support people into the labor market.
