Café Grenzlos celebrates 20 years: Festival of Cultures in Duderstadt!
There will be a big celebration in the Duderstadt town hall on Saturday, June 28th, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.! On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Café Grenzlos, the initiators and members invite you to a colorful eventFestival of culturesa. With a lot of commitment and joy, the project has been helping to make it easier for women from different countries to integrate into Germany since it was founded in 2005. The café not only conjures up delicious snacks on the tables, but also brings a piece of cultural diversity to the citizens of Duderstadt.
Embedded in the celebrations, women from Armenia, Chile, Poland, Pakistan, Russia, Ukraine, Thailand and Germany will introduce themselves. They have the opportunity to offer local delicacies and introduce their cultures. A special highlight will be the lecture by Kounj Odho at 3 p.m., who will report on the culture and nature of Pakistan. The stage program also promises dance and music performances as well as a“open stage”, which gives space to spontaneous contributions.
Especially for women and girls
Café Grenzlos, which works closely with the city's equal opportunities officer, has developed into a popular meeting place over the last two decades. The monthly “Women's Breakfasts with Action” bring together 20 to 80 women from different nations who bring and share typical local delicacies. Not only are friendships created here, but also valuable cultural knowledge, which is complemented by numerous activities and excursions. The weekly offers, such as the sports program “Limitless Fitness” and the creative women’s meeting “Flores de Colores”, round off the offer and are firmly anchored in the participants’ diaries.
The efforts towards integration and mutual understanding have also attracted national attention: the project was awarded in the federal “Citizens for Citizens” competition in 2009 and recommended for imitation. These achievements are no coincidence, as the active support and voluntary work of many committed people are at the heart of Café Grenzlos.
A place for cultural encounters
In addition to the regular meeting points, the Impulse and the information events as part of the Café Grenzlos create opportunities for networking between cultures. Activities such as joint picnics in the multi-generational garden and summer trips to the surrounding area strengthen cohesion and community. The demand for such integration projects is not only high in Duderstadt: These initiatives are part of a larger context of efforts for equality and accessibility, as is the case with the BAMF be promoted.
The celebrations around the Café Grenzlos are not only a reason to celebrate, but also an expression of successful intercultural cooperation.
