Traffic light update in Erfurt: traffic restrictions from June 23rd to 27th!
The next few days will bring changes to traffic in Erfurt: Comprehensive renovation work on the traffic lights is on the agenda from June 23rd to 27th, 2025. The locations Schillerstrasse/city park/train station underpass and the Binderslebener Knie are particularly affected. The traffic lights are temporarily switched off for the dismantling and assembly of the signaling devices, which imposes some restrictions on road users. In some cases, individual lanes will have to be closed and the maximum speeds for vehicle traffic will be reduced in order to increase safety during the work. What is particularly noteworthy is that the work on Schillerstrasse and the city park and train station underpass takes place primarily at night.
But these are not the only locations affected by the modernization measures. Renovation work is also planned at other important intersections in the city. These include, among others:
- Mittelhäuser Straße/An der Lache
- Straße der Nationen/Apoldaer Straße
- Stotternheimer Straße/Geranienweg
- Erfurter Landstraße/Mittelhäuser Chaussee
- Am Herrenberg/Wilhelm-Wolff-Straße
- Weimarische Straße/An der kleinen Mühle
- Flughafenstraße/Gustav-Weißkopf-Straße
The renovations are part of a larger plan to modernize the transport infrastructure in Erfurt. Even if the measures start well, they are far from complete. Future road users are asked to pay particular attention as there may be increased traffic jams at peak times during the construction phase. Wide bypasses are therefore advisable. The Civil Engineering and Transport Authority is grateful for the understanding of the citizens during these necessary renovations.
Road safety in focus
Traffic safety is booming not only in Erfurt, but also at the federal level. The ADAC urgently calls for more investment in transport infrastructure in order to resolve the backlog of renovation work on dilapidated roads, bridges and railways. “It is important that all people can participate in social life, no matter what form of mobility they choose,” is the automobile club’s motto.
An example of such necessary investments is the planned reconstruction of the traffic route on federal highway 304. Work is scheduled to begin here from October 28, 2024 in order to increase traffic safety. Specifically, it is about setting up a traffic light system at the intersection with state highway 2104. In view of the numerous accidents in this area, long waiting times when turning onto the federal highway should be reduced. The construction costs amount to around 250,000 euros, with expected completion on November 15, 2024.
These efforts reflect a growing need for safety in road traffic, and the ADAC calls for increased measures to be taken to improve conditions for all road users, be it by expanding the charging infrastructure for electric cars or through targeted information about risks in road traffic.
Overall, it is clear that the transport infrastructure in Germany needs a refresher that both meets the needs of users and is sustainable. It remains to be seen what decisions the future federal government will make in this area.
In the coming weeks, all road users in Erfurt will need to be particularly careful and patient!
