Board game fun for everyone: City-Country-Play!” now in Erfurt!
On September 20th and 21st it's that time again: the popular board games invite you to the annual highlight "Stadt-Land-Spielt!". This event, which was launched in 2013, brings together gaming enthusiasts of all ages and has long since established itself as an integral part of Cologne's event calendar. A colorful program is offered in over 300 locations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Belgium that not only promotes fun in the game, but also strengthens interpersonal relationships.
In Cologne, various facilities open their doors to take visitors on an exciting journey into the world of games. For example, the children's and youth library at Marktstrasse 21 is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and offers an XXL version of games such as "4 in a row", "Chess" and "Don't be annoyed". The library at Berliner Platz, which is accessible from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., offers exciting games for all age groups. A special highlight is the library on Domplatz, which is hosting an XXL game session in the extra library from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Diversity and community in play
The non-profit project “Stadt-Land-Spielt!” is a labor of love for many in the board gaming community. It is supported by various actors, including game publishers, municipalities and clubs. “Playing brings people together, regardless of origin, generation or social background,” explains a speaker at the event. This is particularly evident in the integrative and cross-generational approaches to board game culture in Germany, which promotes shared practice in associations, clubs and other communal spaces, reports UNESCO.
The variety of board games ranges from strategy to cooperative games and thus appeals to the most diverse interests of players. Especially at a time when social interactions are sometimes neglected, gaming is not only an opportunity to train cognitive skills, but also to make new friendships and deepen existing ones.
Cultural heritage and future of the game
The importance of board game culture in Germany goes beyond mere recreational fun. It has developed into a living tradition that manages to bring people from different social and cultural backgrounds together. What is particularly noteworthy is that playing in clubs, youth centers and cafés rarely follows guidelines. Rather, the focus is on exchange between generations and social groups, which creates a lively sense of community.
“City-Country Play!” is not just a celebration for game lovers, it is a platform that promotes dialogue and community in gaming. And best of all: entry is free and registration is not required. So get dressed in your coziest clothes and get ready for a fun-filled weekend!
