A real highlight is still around: on July 26, 2025 there will be another concert. However, if you can no longer endure the anticipation, you shouldn't miss the next performance on June 28, 2025 at 4 p.m. if Marc van Bets plays on the 60 bronze blocks of the Erfurt Carillon and will perform both original compositions and well -known works by Franz Schubert, Charles Aznavour and Nino Rota.
The story of the bells
The Carillon in Bartholoma tower is a true masterpiece. It was designed in 1979 by the Apolda bell founder Peter Schilling, and it is one of the larger carillons in Germany. The tower is not only home to the outstanding bells, but also a handball facility, known as a stick piano. In the recent past, bell art even received special recognition: on March 26, 2025, it was recognized by the German UNESCO commission as an intangible cultural heritage and entered it in the nationwide directory, which underlines the importance of this tradition.
Every day the automatic of the Erfurt Carillon plays a melody at 10, 12 and 6 p.m. In this way, the Erfurt and their guests can look forward to a varied music program. On montages you can hear "Kojo No Tsuki I" by Rentaro Taki, for example, while on Sundays the melodic "Allemande" by Ernst Gottlieb Baron. The entire list of daily melodies promises a real sound experience.
a sign of solidarity and connectedness
The message of peace and solidarity, which sounds through the bells, is also particularly noteworthy. Since February 28, 2022, the Carillon has been playing the national anthem of Ukraine, as a sign of support for the country. In addition, since November 1, 2023, "Peace, gracious", a song that Martin Luther has been attributed and edited has been heard from Wilhelm Ritter, Wilfried Krätschmar and Ulrich Seidel can be heard. These musical messages meet particularly fertile soil these days.Marc van Bets stands out under the talented carillinne nuons. His musical career started at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, and since 2007 he has brought his skills as a church bell player of the Sankt-Rombouts-Cathedral in Mechelen. His impressive concert tours through Europe and the joint book publication on the art of bell pouring demonstrate his deep commitment to bell art and its history.
The upcoming events in Bartholoma Tower are therefore not only a pleasure for the ears, but also a wonderful way to experience the culture and tradition of this city up close. Let yourself be inspired and enjoy the sounds that illuminate the Erfurt sky!
