Fighting regional league: Rot-Weiß Erfurt demands promotion reform!
Erfurt, Deutschland - In the world of football, hope dies last. The discussion about the promotion regulation in the regional league is currently causing a lot of conversation, especially in East Germany. The initiative "Advice Reform 2025", in which, among other things, red-white erfurt brings new Dynamics into play after several clubs, including Erfurt, were disadvantaged last season.
The situation is unsustainable: Red-Weiß Erfurt landed 16 points behind the leader Lok Leipzig in the past season and missed the ascent. Leipzig also had to swallow a bitter pill by defeat in the promotion playoffs. All the more urgent, the initiative's demand is that masters have to rise. This is supported by Union Berlin that will take place together for fair conditions.
unjust competition
The core problem is the unequal distribution of the promotion places in the various regional leagues. While the masters of the Regionalliga West and Southwest rise directly, the competition from the northeast, north, and Bavaria must fall back in a rotary system that only offers four promotion places for five masters. This regulation ensures frustration and raised the question: How can it better reward sporting success? Here the initiative comes into play, which was founded in March and presents concrete proposals for reform.
- Reduction of the five regional leaves to four with 20 teams each, so that every master can rise directly.
- Introduction of master play-offs in the “Everyone against every” format, whereby the four best clubs rise.
- Turning the 3. League from 20 to 22 teams to create a fairer competition.
The representatives of a total of 17 clubs, including Hallesche FC and Chemnitzer FC, reaffirm the urgency of these reforms. The motto "Ascent reform 2025" is not just an empty phrase, but a ray of hope for many club rooms.
A call to solidarity
