New cultural center in Erfurt: Defense barracks opens doors for events!

In the past few weeks, something has been done in the Petersberg defension barracks in Erfurt. How Erfurt.de reported, an area of around 600 square meters was extensively renovated. Modernized rooms will soon be available to visitors here, which will be used primarily for creative workshops and various events.

A new floor was laid and the electrics are also state-of-the-art. In addition, the new lighting system offers a variety of options for creating the right atmosphere at different events. And best of all: The rooms are connected to broadband internet, so that digital formats can also be implemented without any problems. The walls of the historic, vault-like rooms on the upper floor remain largely in their original condition, which gives the whole area a special charm.

Cultural diversity in focus

The magnificent lower floors received a fresh coat of paint and are now ready to be used with an elevator and modern toilets. According to the city of Erfurt, the renovation cost around 250,000 euros, as stated in the city council decision of June 25, 2025. A few weeks after the opening, the area is highlighted with a special event of the first exhibitor, the “World of Treasures” foundation.

The project “Only good vibes?” starts in October and covers cannabis consumption from different perspectives. Interestingly, the exhibition is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Health. The official opening is scheduled for October 23rd and the organizers are already optimistic. Your already successful exhibition "BE.LIKE.ME. A new exhibition house of the world of temptations, which is scheduled to open in the winter of 2026/27 at Erfurt Huttenplatz, is also in the starting blocks.
