Historical lecture about the Rerussian military inspires Gera!
The city of Gera also has a lot to offer this week. On July 16th at 6 p.m., the Gera City Museum welcomes all history buffs to a special lecture by Lars Goßmann. Under the title “The Reussian Military from the Middle Ages to the First World War” it offers a comprehensive overview of the military history of the Reuss principalities. The lecture promises an exciting immersion into history, especially into the topics of uniforms, weaponry and the everyday life of soldiers. Goßmann will also present several exhibits from his own collection, including a uniform that will be shown as part of the exhibition “That Means War.” After the lecture there is the opportunity to talk directly to the speaker. In addition to those interested in history, everyone who is interested in regional and military history is warmly invited. OTZ reports.
At the same time, the Parkinson self-help group meets on the same day at 2 p.m. in the Eichenhof in Gera Lusan. The focus here is on the important question: “Why do I need occupational therapy for Parkinson’s disease?” Guest speaker Katja Schmeller from Ergotherapie Brandt will shed light on these questions and offers all members and interested parties a platform for exchange.
Lectures and concerts
The Gera/Altenburg Red Fox Support Association is organizing another interesting lecture in cooperation with the German Freethinkers Association Isor on July 19th at 2 p.m. in the Steinweg 1 restaurant. The topic here will be “The Russian Danger – Reality or Myth?” explained by speaker Uwe Trostel.
Music lovers can look forward to a live concert by musician Mario Schmidt, which will take place on July 22nd at 6 p.m. in the summer garden of the Gera Metropol Cinema. The program features great songs from well-known artists such as Bob Dylan and Neil Young, and entry is free!
Bike tour to Arnhem
But that's not all: In June, eleven members of the “Solidarität 1895 Gera” cycling club set off on an impressive bike tour to Arnhem, the Dutch twin city. Under the motto “By bike, by bike, go out,” the cyclists covered around 800 kilometers in ten stages. The route led through picturesque towns such as Erfurt, Creuzburg, Bad Sooden, Bad Karlshafen, Hameln, Bad Salzuflen, Warendorf, Münster and Vreden, and what was particularly pleasing: the tour was accident-free and without any technical breakdowns. The participants were enthusiastic about the cycling friendliness in Arnhem and were warmly welcomed there.
The return journey was relaxed by train via Mannheim and Erfurt. There was also productive contact with the RETO-Verein Arnheim cycling club, where an invitation to Gera was extended. Meanwhile, the Arnhem-Wageningen region invites you to further cycle tours along the so-called Liberation route, which deals with the history of the Second World War. The route covers around 50 kilometers and offers interesting junctions and audio stations along the way that provide information about the history of Operation Market Garden.
The cycle routes in the area are not only educational, but also scenic and invite you to explore further. The invitation to cycling enthusiasts to combine history with sporting activity is a real benefit for the region.
Whether lectures, concerts or bike tours – there is something for everyone in Gera this week. The question now remains: What are you planning for the next few days?
