Cave Festival 2025: Gera celebrates with beer, music and historical highlights!

What a celebration, what hype! From October 3rd to 5th, 2025, Gera will celebrate its 34th Cave Festival and, from today, will attract tens of thousands of visitors to the wonderful old town. With numerous events in the city center, nothing will be missing. The Cave Festival is not only one of the largest city festivals in the region, it also has deeper historical roots - beer used to be stored in caves, underground storage rooms. Over the next few days, guests can expect a colorful program on a total of nine event areas.

The happy festivities begin today at 2 p.m. with a traditional draft beer tapping, presented by Mayor Kurt Dannenberg. Before that, at 1:15 p.m., 788 chimes sounded from the town hall tower, followed by 788 fanfares at 1:45 p.m. from the balcony of the culture and congress center. The large festival stage becomes a contact point for music and dance enthusiasts. On the first day, the dance group “Brillanten” and the rock band SILLY ensure a good atmosphere.

From the historic parade to the final concert

Another highlight of the festival is the historic parade of the cave association on Saturday, October 4th, at 4:15 p.m. Then the Köstritzer Bierstange is awarded to the most hospitable pubs - a real highlight for everyone who combines cuisine and tradition. In the evening the Vollmershainer Schalmeien and Leon Brandel, an Andreas Gabalier double, will be at the start. The crowning conclusion will be on Sunday with a concert presented by Vogtlandradio.

The festival area extends across Puschkinplatz, Museumsplatz, Markt, Sorge, Große Kirchstrasse, Zschochernplatz and Nicolaiberg, so there should be something for every visitor. Many shops are open on Sunday, October 5th, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., which further enlivens the festival.

Information on arrival and safety

A good tip for all festival visitors: Traveling by public transport is recommended, as there may be traffic disruptions and road closures in the city center during the Cave Festival. Parking options can be found in the city center parking garages. There will also be additional tram rides on line 1 every 15 minutes on October 3rd and 5th.

Entry to the cave festival itself is free. However, anyone who treats themselves to the exclusive Cave Festival wristband for two euros can benefit from numerous advantages at participating shops and museums. Tickets are sold through the Gera Information Office, the Gera Museums and the Cave Association.

All in all, Gera can expect an unforgettable weekend full of tradition, enjoyment and hustle and bustle. The city would like to thank the sponsors and clubs who contributed to the realization of the festival. And now, dear festival friends, off to the Cave Festival!
